my wife is taking a literature course at a local college.
this was her final topic of the semester: why rational people buy into conspiracy theories?i automatically thought of this site and of jws.
the jws i knew, were the kind of people that would believe in conspiracy theories, and i noticed a small following on this site.. the article that was referenced for this course was: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/26/magazine/why-rational-people-buy-into-conspiracy-theories.html?_r=0.
According to a pair of new studies published in the journal Applied Cognitive Psychology, conspiracy theorists—and there are a lot more of them than you may think—tend to have one thing in common: they feel a lack of control over their lives.
So several of you agree with these experts and feel it is about control.

A higher minimum wage has been shown to be beneficial economically and for business.
Then the answer is simple, raise the minimum wage to $50 an hour. Problem solved.

Thanks, for the comments. I will provide this to my wife. Her paper is an opinion piece.
My opinion on this subject, is sure there are conspiracies. However the ones in the same category of 911 are not plausible. It is the same argument I've made in the past. Too many people would be involved for it not to be exposed.
The eye witnesses that saw the plane crash into the pentagon are to be dismissed? The same with all the other various conspiracies that require 100's of people if not 1000s to cover it up.
BTW you don't need 911 to get the government to spend billions in the military. T

I'm curious, what those on this site feel is the reason people believe in conspiracy theories such as "Moon Hoax", "911 was done by Bush".....
1) many who were on the destructive path have been transformed by their teachings (this includes me who was once vicious, and presumptuous and atheistic).
2) equal monthly pay to all members of the bethel community regardless of whether they are bc members or sweepers.
this is something that still remains as an unattainable dream for the world.
Equal monthly pay to all members of the Bethel community regardless of whether they are BC members or sweepers. This is something that still remains as an unattainable dream for the world. But JWs have successfully done it in all their Offices throughout the world for over a century. This is no insignificant accomplishment as this has the potential to solve virtually all the problems of the world.
After reading this drivel I read no further..... Mixing of Marxism with JW Theology yes that will solve all the world's problems
this is something i think about a lot, possibly because i'm just getting older.
it seems that not only should i finally one day decide what i want to do with my life, but i should also be planning for retirement.. hands up everyone who feels their future has been royally screwed by the wts experience?.
if you were a good jw and followed the wts advice you could well be finding yourself facing middle or even old age without much or anything put aside in retirement savings.
I left the organization early so I started a Roth IRA in 1998 and a 401k in 1995. I still plan to work another 25 years so i should be sitting decent at 63.
Even if you're 50 you can save something before 65. But really, any financial advice is so dependent on the person. How old are you? Are you healthy to continue working for another 10, 15, or 20 years? What country you live in? Taxes are a big factor. Try deciding on various tax accounts in your early twenties, and not having a clue what tax laws will exist in 45 years.
One thing too is for me retirement is not a big deal but my daughter and future children education is. I starting paying for my daughters education when she was born. It will be paid off before she is 12, all four years. I don't even plan on retiring but working or doing what I like. That is what retirement means to me. Having the financial ability to do what I want and not worry how much that "job" pays.
I would like to join Dr. without borders and help provide nursing care, but can't afford to do that now but hoping I can when I retire.

I've been involved in multiple safety courses and safety teams in both retail settings and medical facilities. I worked on quick builds and on a Watchtower citrus farm in the 90's. I didn't see an urgency in following safety protocols if there were any. I saw young children using power tools or climbing 15 foot ladders to pick citrus. At Walmart if you're under 18 you can't even operate an electric powered cart pusher. In the medical facility every day we had a safety topic on proper lifting, patient safety, and infection control.
I would see many brothers and sisters twisting and lifting with their backs at WT projects. When I would go pick citrus in Leigh Acres, FL (I think they sold that place) there was no safety training, no safety gear provided, and no warning about the snakes in the field. Only one I saw with helmets were the ones doing packing.
